About SpectraComp
SpectraComp is a publication dedicated to helping spectroscopy professionals choose the right tools for their work. We review software, compare instruments, and publish buying guides grounded in hands-on testing with real spectral data.
We are not affiliated with any instrument manufacturer or software vendor. We don't accept payment for favorable reviews, and we never let advertising influence our ratings. When we recommend something, it's because our testing supports it.
Our Review Methodology
Software Reviews
We install or access every tool we review. Each application is tested with standardized spectral datasets across FTIR, Raman, and UV-Vis formats. We evaluate file format support, feature completeness, peak detection accuracy, library search quality, usability, and documentation. Reviews reflect weeks of regular use, not a single afternoon.
Instrument ReviewsComing soon
We compile specifications from manufacturer documentation, cross-reference with published literature, and incorporate feedback from practitioners who use the instruments daily. Instrument reviews will follow the same independence standards as our software coverage.
Scoring
Every reviewed product receives a score on a 10-point scale, composed of five weighted categories:
| Category | Weight |
|---|---|
| Features | 30% |
| Usability | 25% |
| File Format Support | 20% |
| Value | 15% |
| Documentation | 10% |
Editorial Independence
SpectraComp may earn revenue through advertising and lead generation in the future. This will never influence our ratings or recommendations. If a product scores poorly, we say so - regardless of any business relationship.
Reviews are written by spectroscopy practitioners, not marketing writers. Our reviewers have hands-on experience with the techniques and instruments they evaluate.

Contact
We welcome corrections, feedback, and suggestions. If you believe we've made a factual error in a review or if a product has changed significantly since we last evaluated it, we want to hear about it.
